The step-by-step plan in case of theft
When an employee discovers that the lease bike has been stolen, immediate action must be taken through the following steps:
Step 1: Online report with the police. The employee must immediately file a report with the police. It is essential that the frame number of the bicycle is correctly included in the police report. The employee can easily find this number via the Lease a Bike platform. In addition, it is a hard requirement of the insurance that the employee is in possession of both original bicycle keys, of which at least one must show clear signs of use. In the case of an electronic lock, the employee must be able to prove via an e-log that the bicycle was locked.
Step 2: Visit the Lease a Bike bike shop. With the police report, the employee goes to the affiliated bike shop. Together with the retailer, a digital theft form is filled out on the platform.
Step 3: Request for a new bicycle. Based on the approved claim, the bike shop requests a new, similar bicycle with a maximum of the same price within the existing lease contract. In the meantime, the employee will receive a loaner bike (if available from the dealer) for a maximum of seven days. The existing lease contract continues in the meantime under the current conditions.
Crucial requirements for the police report
Because the bicycle is the legal and economic property of the leasing company, the employee or Lease a Bike may never be noted as the owner.

If these details are missing or incorrect on the police report, the bike shop unfortunately cannot process the theft and the police report must be adjusted by the police.
Overview of deductible (Contracts from 1 February 2024)
There is no deductible for regular city bikes and e-bikes. For specific types, the deductible depends on the presence of a certified GPS tracking system with an active recovery service:

For bicycles leased before 1 February 2024, a deductible of €0 applies to city bikes, e-bikes, cargo bikes, and speed pedelecs. For road bikes and mountain bikes, this was 20% at the time for a total loss, and 10% in case of theft of the bicycle.
